Fast Food Is Bad For You

Sentence Outline- Persuasive Speech
Thesis: Indeed, fast foods are bad to our health, and they should be discouraged as much as possible.
i. There are three reasons why people should avoid consuming fast foods.
A. Fast food causes obesity
1. Firstly, fast food contain high volumes of calories and eating too much of it leads to obesity and weight gain (Bowman & Vinyard, 2004).
2. Secondly, research indicates that individuals who consume high amounts of fast foods end up eating more calories (Bariatic Surgery Source).
3. In addition, it also contains saturated fat, sodium, and little volumes of milk, vegetables, and fruits (Bariatic Surgery Source).
4. Furthermore, research also reveals that, junk food from main stores has high volume of trans fat. Trans fat is known for having significant impact on one’s body and contributes to abdominal obesity, weight gain, heart diseases, and diabetes (Bowman & Vinyard, 2004).
5. In that respect, individuals concerned about obesity should take an action of avoiding them, and instead consume healthy food, which is balanced (Bariatic Surgery Source).
B. Fast food causes laziness among people
1. Firstly, the addictiveness and convenience nature of fast food leads to laziness of people in general.
2. Secondly, people tend to oversee the idea that too much consumption of junk food leads to weight gain. Furthermore, the good tastes of most fast foods spark people to continue taking more (Mark et al., 2005).
3. Naturally, consuming high volumes of junk food adds to obese cases, hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes, which are the major causes of laziness (Jakle & Sculle, 2002).
4. In fact, considering that most individuals are leading a sedentary lifestyle, the excess calories and fats are not fully used in the body (Mark et al., 2005).
C. Fast food is expensive and it denies families time together
1. In view of fast food, it is only economical for single people, and not families (Mark et al., 2005).
2. In fact, spending some time with one’s family in junk food joints is not a big deal. Nonetheless, going there frequently can turn out quite expensive, save for the risks (Bowman & Vinyard, 2004).
3. Furthermore, fast foods are to blame for making people in a family spend time together (Bowman & Vinyard, 2004).
4. Whenever a family is taking meals together, they get an opportunity to share experiences, and come together. In that respect, fast food is fast robbing this quality period (Burstein & Goodbody, 2008).
