Mobile phones as health hazards

The number of mobile phone users has for the past few years risen to sky-scraping levels. It continues to soar on a daily basis at an exceptionally high rate. Statistics in the United States reveal just how profoundly embedded cell phones have become in human beings’ lives. It is estimated that there are at least three billion mobile phone users in the world. In the recent years, the widespread use of cellular phones has led to amplified concerns about potential health risks. Studies are being done to establish whether there is any link between the cell phone use and the growth of brain tumors. The US National Cancer Institute (NCI) categorically believes that there is no ultimate link between the two. According to this institute, there is no credible health hazard imposed by the continuous use of mobile phones (Stilgoe 57).
Mobile phones operate with Radio Frequencies (RF). Every time a mobile phone subscriber makes a call, it releases a low level of Radio Frequency energy as the phone’s antenna produces radio waves that eventually transmit individuals’ voices from one handset to another. The amount of radiation released depend on several factors such as; the duration and frequency of mobile phone use, the distance between the cell phone user and the base station, and the relative position of the cell phone to the user’s head. From research institutions, it is evident that microwave frequencies cause cancer. Cell phone falls in the class of microwave transmitters and, therefore, is not an exceptional. For years research has proved a close link between microwave exposure and cancer. According to Dr. Henry Lai, brain cells are clearly damaged by even tiny quantities of radio frequency waves. It is, therefore, a fact that low Radio Frequency cellular phones emit, their contribution to the risk of spreading brain cancer cannot be ruled out (Willmott 96).
Manufacturers of cellular phones argue that if properly used, cellular phones are free from danger. Motorola once advised the mobile phone users to avoid pointing a cellular antenna towards uncovered body parts. This does not mean that they have prevented the microwaves from leaking. In fact, enormous amount of radiations leaks from the keypad and the mouth piece. These radiations pierce deeply into the brain, ears and eye tissues, which are highly prone to microwave harm. Belt clip holders permit cell phones to convey radiations to the liver or kidney regions when a cabled, hands-free earphone is used. This further reveals the dangers exposed to the human being by the mobile phones (Stilgoe 63).
Microwave is extremely dangerous to the head of a child. Radiations such as those released by the cell phones are highly absorbed by the brain of a youngster as highlighted by a University of Utah researcher. Cell phones can alter electrical activity of a child’s brain even for hours, causing severe mood changes and learning disabilities. According to research experts, cell phones could also damage human embryos especially when pregnant women use them (Willmott 26).
From the above information, it makes sense concluding that the cell phone industry knows the truth about health risks caused by mobile phones. Also, it is worth noting that some of the scientists are corrupt, and that’s why they publicly deny any hazards related to cell phones. Individuals should, therefore, be extremely restrictive with mobile use. Lastly it can be concluded that mobile radiation is too strong to be safe and imposes enormous risks to human health.
